Concept
This assignment was for the band 5 on the Floor. For their show, they wanted a dress for the lead singer. The band is inspired by funk and disco from the '70s. That's why the design is based on the clothing style from that period, with a striking silver fabric and a flared shape.
Pattern
The pattern was designed in CLO3D. I used it for the first time and am pleased with how quickly I got the hang of the basics.
final product
The design is a flared dress, made from a silver-colored fabric. The back has a zipper. The front features decorative seams that flow into darts.
Areas for improvement
During this project, I struggled a lot with fitting. Since I had no prior experience adjusting fit, I lost a significant amount of time and materials. However, this turned out to be a valuable learning experience, and by the end of the project, I had a much better understanding of how to adjust fit based on the wearer's body and feedback. I also should have thought through my material choice more carefully, since the fabric I used was very thick, which made it uncomfortably hot to wear on stage. I would also take a more professional stance on pricing, since I ended up taking a loss on this project.
